    Feinwerkbau FWB 80 calling Houston

I have a FWB 65 pistol but a faulty FWB 80 came my way and I thought it might be interesting as an alternative. It was a bit low on speed but fired alright. This is what I found inside.

Now I have a few choices to make

So the face of the compression cylinder has been knocked out, falling back inside and jamming under the piston buffer, with a piece of the latter gone AWOL. The breech seal covered the problem and allowed the pistol to function. I'm not sure if the drop in velocity is due to air leaking past the seal or the larger than standard outlet hole created by the seal.

Options are to switch the compression cylinder from the 65 to the 80 and scrap the 65, or to try fix the broken cylinder. I know a repair would never be 100% but it may be good enough for friends and family to enjoy a plink with. The breech seal stays in place so I could put in a new one, maybe with a dab of sealant, or try to drift a washer in to replace the missing metal behind it, albeit with the risk that could end up in the cylinder at some point.

    Ideas would be welcome.

    Thanks

If no luck with Feinwerkbau, try Waffencenter Gotha.

Out of stock at the moment and as much as the entire pistol to buy, unfortunately

I'd leave the 65 alone, and wait for some parts, or the ability to repair, for the 80.. It might take a year or two, but something will turn up on e6ay or wherever, it always does in the end

Good advice that I should probably have taken! All the same, now that they are both in 100 pieces I'm going to have to give the cylinder swap a go. The P/N is the same, so it should fi, and I'm intending to use the piston out of Mod.80 as it is the double-spring version. The one nagging doubt I have is about what caused the damage in the first place? I can't see anything that looks wrong in the set up, other than the little buffer on the outside of the cylinder being worn flat. Could the double-spring be overly strong?

I do but they'd charge by the hour and even at a discount I guess there's a few needed, especially with all the details on the exterior. The breech seal locates properly, so there must be a slight lip where the break occurred that still holds it in place. I'll put in a new seal, maybe with some Permatex, and will try a few pellets through it. If the chrono figures look fine, there's not much point in doing more until the right part floats by, which it surely will one day as Shed tuner says. It will be officially in the scrap pile but likely more than good enough to pop the odd balloon when needed.
