Exclamation Sussex Interclub 2025 Series - Round 1 Results

    Hi all.

Slight delay in prepping this, while I watched the F1 race – apologies. I will now be switching over to the golf (Masters), but happy for that to be on in the ‘background’.

The Horsham Hawkes HFT crew welcomed us to host the opening round of this year’s SIHFT series and delivered a well-run admin (big shout out to the parking monitors and those volunteering to see us safely back out on to the road), good breakfast and lunch offerings and a great course. I gather that they may rethink how strings are attached to targets, with many of the stoppages caused by failures of a new style clip they had used.

Unlike last year (very soggy) and the weather forecast for today a week ago, it was really quite summery. No rain, some sunshine and a breeze to keep you on your toes all around the course, but especially so in the field-of-doom.

On an entirely personal note, I ‘lost’ 3 points throughout both woods, but then 5 in the field, including a doughnut with sprinkles on the unsupported stander However, compared with a week ago at Misfits (R1 of the UKAHFT), this was a huge improvement; my score that day was a PW forty-one. !!

Excellent turnout today too – with 72 souls entering. Not yet checked, but I reckon that either is, or is close to, a best ever for SIHFT Round 1. This inclulded returners we've not seen for a while and a goodly number of complete newbies.

I have resisted the temptation to study score cards in great detail – to see if any bits inadvertently left blank. However there was one DNF card without a name. Alicia and I came to conclusion that this was Nigel Buchan. Hope we got that right. Please do let me know asap if not.

Top score today – a pair of 56s – were shared by Howard Kalish in Open Class, this year shooting for Horsham, and Super Vet Paul Blaxall from Meon. Very well done guys.
Anyway …. Here are the results. If you’ve not seen (or forgotten) the results table layout, perhaps the only column not recognised from its heading is the last one – the “T”. This denotes that this person’s score has been included in their club team result.

Can you spot any errors in this post? Have I spelt your name correctly? Do I have you down for the correct club and/or class? – please message me directly.

SIHFT Round 2 is in 3 weeks, on Sunday 4th May at Mile Oak. So prepare yourselves, not for the field of doom, but the hill-of-doom, aka the South Downs.

Between now and then, we have the Easter weekend. On the Saturday, Mile Oak has one of its ‘fun’ mornings where we shoot Pistol HFT followed by Open Sights (rifle) HFT. Then over the following weekend (26th and 27th), a surprisingly large contingent of Great Brits are heading overseas for the WHFTC in Sardinia. What else?? If you know of something of interest – shooting related please – do let us know
