Jeff Tanner moulds.

I had a couple of ball moulds a few years back from the late Jeff Tanner. A .36 and a .75". They were both excellent and cast perfectly round lead balls. My Lee mould tend to cast some strange flattened balls which are not terribly good for accurate shooting.

When Jeff died I feared the worst for the ball mould industry, but I've just been in need of a .69 mould so I ordered one from the same place as his son James apparently is now running the show.

The mould turned up today after a very short wait so I promptly gave it a go to find it every bit as good as my old ones. I cast about 92 in an hour, trimmed the sprue and have them tumbling in my drum case cleaner to round them off.

I have to say I'm well pleased that JT moulds are still in business. The price of the mould was about the same as for a LEE but the quality is far better.

Got a charliville Musketoon for down the club when it’s finished what’s your starting loadwas thinking around 35gr of black for mine?

I use between 40 and 80 gun in my ph Enfield musketoon 577 with minie ball. 35 may be a bit light but try it and see.

I’m a member of the same club as you des, I think 40 to 80 might be over the top at our range I use 30gr in my .451 carbine was thinking 35 -40 for our 25m range

You have me at a disadvantage. I cant place you.

You would be hard pressed to get up to 1464ft/lb with a 577 from a musketoon. I stick to around 40gn most of the time as it's more comfortable to shoot but use heavier loads at 50 and 100 mts at my other club.

I might run the musketoon over the chrono and see whatt we're getting.

Swiss powder certainly gives better velocity than kranks cooking or the vesuvit which I'm currently using.

I tried 2 drams or around 50gns yesterday and found it a bit heavy. Good for 100 yards though. 35 would be a good starting load as you say.

I got a Tanner mould for my .69 Ardesa cannon a while back.

Excellent value - I have a few for the more obscure sizes.

I've just received a new one (3 days) for my 69 cannon. The .69 ball is a bit too tight and needs a good few taps to seat it. This new one is for a patch and I couldn't resist getting it in .666. what could possibly go wrong!
