It’s back together and shooting well, I’ll have chrono it when it’s bedded in a bit.
New seal and barrel shims as the old ones looked suspect.
Discovered the cocking lever rivet was apparently a replacement and hadn’t been peened over it was just pushed in so I’m glad that didn’t walk out whilst I was shooting the gun when I initially got it, that along with every screw being finger tight, a tbt kit fitted completely dry and an oval piston and the trigger sear engagement screw completely backed off.
Makes you wonder what this gun has been through
All I can say now is the strange twang has gone, the trigger feels much better and the cocking is effortless
    Fingers crossed

It sounds like the poor little thing had been subjected to a good deal of amateur hamfistery. But, in addition to them being well-engineered, precision instruments, they're tough old things, too, and can shrug off such shenanigans!

Nice work and I'm sure all will be good now.

I bought a s/h 80 off gun trader years ago

The guy had it seemed tried to machine down the piston, and left it oval !

Thankfully this was back in V Mach days so Steve just laughed and put in a non messed with piston, after checking the cylinder was not scraped

I think I still have the rifle .....
Looking for TO-6 Trigger unit unmessed with or T0-6 kit for 34
