I was thinking for use in a confined space like a hide as it's too early to be the second gun in a punt.
Or the guy who had it built travelled a lot it would have been easier to pack, if they were on horse back what a deadly close quarters weapon it would have been for self protection from highway men, if it was carried loaded without the barrel screwed on it becomes a 12 bore blunderbuss without the flared barrel.
