Shot Gun advice for a newbie

I am just getting into (complete beginner) Clay Pigeon shooting and am looking at buying a shot gun (preferably new). I am taking shooting lessons at my local club and am finding this a great source of information and advice, but was wondering what other people thought. I will probably end up going for a new Beretta Silver Pigeon 30" Sporter with multi chokes depending on the deal I can get. I want to make sure that the gun fits me properly and I get the correct advice. If I do consider buying second hand what are the problems that can occur with a second hand gun? Is it possible/wise to buy a shot gun over the Web or should I stick with a local dealer? Can anyone recommend in Scotland a reputable, trustworthy dealer who's not going to rip me off? Can anyone also recommend useful Web sites that would be of assistance.

Apologies if this is not the correct location to post this message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shotgun-wise always try before you buy.

Make sure it fits you, I brought a Beretta White Onyx 30in, too long, tried a Lamber (shorter barreled model) half the price and managed to get my highest score in skeet first try. Best part about it, I hadn't been claying in the last 3 months.

You are doing the right thing by chosing multi-choke, gives you much versatility.

Local dealer, all the way, maybe more expensive, but you get a gun for YOU.
