Webley mk1 100 year anniversary video

Seeing as today (7/8/2024) is a hundred years to the day that Webley was granted (approved) the patent for the Mk1 design please enjoy an hour long celebration of this amazing pistol, and all that followed on from it.
With some great contributions from John Griffiths and comparison shooting of 14 vintage pistols from me it's a pretty good one. Nice bit from the Bisley Webley pistol shoot at the end too.

What a fabulous way to celebrate the day. I got the notification first thing this morning and watched it straight away as I am lucky enough to have the day off work.
Brilliant video with some beautiful pistols on show. Loved the comparison, it really does show just how good the original Webley design is.

By far the most comprehensive and informative video on this baseline design that I have ever come across.. When you get the chance, could you please judge the Tell 3 by the same criteria? Somehow I think the Webley will win easily like it did against all the others though.

There have already been youtube comments saying it's getting people more interested in vintage air pistols, so that's good.

It's been very interesting comparing this many classic pistols together under the same test conditions.
it made me realise that I often evaluate air pistols in isolation, just after I've acquired them...I service and zero them and then they go in the cabinet. Then the next addition to the collection comes along and I evaluate that in isolation in the same way... I always had a vague notion of how it may have compared to all the other air pistols but I never really checked. I'm always interested in how all these old airguns relate to each other, and where the improvements and evolution occur. it's probably my background in Product design...

For example (as I said in the video) I always assumed the pre war Diana mod 5 would give the Mk1 a run for it's money, as it's accuracy surprised me when I first got it.. but that was just based on the assumption that it wouldn't be accurate, with it's very basic grip and being very front heavy ..but it was only from comparing them back to back that I realised it was nowhere near the Webley on pretty much every level. That was quite surprising.

I don't think I'll be testing anything else on this format in comparison with the equivalent Webley's...I normally wouldn't make a video on an airgun I didn't own myself, but for a decent comparison I was very fortunate to be lent the Abas, Warrior, Acvoke and WRHP concentric for this video, and as they had been serviced and were working as they should I think we had a good representation of what was readily available at the time. I won't be forking out for a tell 3 anytime soon but I have been offerd a very reasonably priced Acvoke which I'll be very happy to add to the collection.

I've got loads of ideas for future video's, but this one was special.

Thank you, I try to come up with interesting shot's as they add a bit of fun to the editing. A picture says a thousand words, and a moving one even more so.

Very nicely done and thank you for the hard work in bringing it.
I think it demonstrated that all these guns have their advantage/disadvantage but taken as a whole, the Webley design won through.
I think perhaps shooters are not happy with the modern offerings of gawky appearance and plastics and yearn for the older stuff. Perhaps manufacturers should do some reintroduction or copies.

It would be great if you now planned a Webley versus Webley competition to find out the best version but I think you earned a rest.

Would have loved to see a post war Hy-Score compete? The early 1950’s were I think the best and I think would give a good accounting of itself? Similar to the Webley over here so many were made it’s easy to under appreciate them?
