The D35 is not rare, but yours is in better condition than most D35s I've come across.
On the other hand, the barrels are often in better shape than the rest of the gun, so no big loss to the world if you re-purpose.

I agreed, now I'm defo re-purposing it. TBH I had already decided, but your support is appreciated

No going back now... even using my small 1000W angle grinder, with those thin 1mm cutting discs, it cut through 5/8" steel like butter...

See what happens on the next cut.. it takes a thin cylindrical section which is clearly the last remaining bit of the block clean off the barrel, showing a blued groove underneath, which I guess was for a retaining crosspin..



That'll do for the moment. I need to get the old brocock barrel out and start machining a little more carefully for it's new home...

That might inspire me to chop up a worn D35 myself.
Been thinking of putting the barrel in a FWB sport that has a barrel rusted beyond saving.

not tried, but I seriously doubt it... it's clearly machined, not pressed.

well this is a bit strange. Took off a few more passes to remove as much of the machining features as possible, and found that the barrel is sleeved, over splines. Seems to line up with the breech seal OD, so it looks like they just machine a step for the seal, and then press on an outer sleave. Seems too much work, so I wonder if this is also to address bore co-eccentricity at the same time ?

I've been thinking about doing just that to machine the piston seal groove on HW barrels.

But Diana barrels have shallow grooves for O-rings, and the groove is cut at a slanted angel to follow the breech contour, so your second explanation seems valid to me.

that's a realy good point; I forgot about the slant, as I machined it off a while ago !
