Good Afternoon,
The smokeless powder used by shooters ‘Pyrodex’ has been reclassified by the manufacturer and allocated UN Numbers; 0499 & 0501. This
means that the powder in question is no longer specifically exempted by the Explosives Regulations 2014.
The exemption for firearms & shotgun certificate holders and RFDs no longer applies.
Consequently, an explosives certificate to possess or acquire the 0499 & 0501 powders, in addition to a firearms / shotgun license is required
to purchase.
For the safeguarding of your members. Grateful if you would disseminate to those in your club who use this powder that continued possession
of the above without a certificate is illegal.
Members who do not possess the required acquire and keep explosive licence but still possess the subject Pyrodex is required to be removed
from their possession forthwith.
For members who wish to apply for an explosive certificate can apply online at the South Wales Police website;
wales.police.uk/
Your time and assistance is much appreciated.
