Just seen this and still in shock....R.I.P.. Dave
very sad news a great loss to the air gun world condolences to his family.
My name is Sarah Hirst; I am David's eldest daughter. Never before have I seen such devotion & sympathy by so many people some of whom never met my dad. Your words of kindness at such a sad time have overwhelmed myself & my family, we would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. I am sure you will agree that my dad will be missed by many, but the lives that he touched are better for meeting him.
A certain crass song stated that heaven is a half pipe.... Its not! Heaven is a 60ft ladder in to some cursed awkward tree. Rest in peace mr Baines. Eternal peace. May your eternal Spirit help the rest of us devise entertaining (H)FT couses for many generations to come.
I am in absolute shock as I only found out this morning. I can only echo the comments posted before. My deepest sympathies to David's family.

Sarah, thankyou for taking the time to post at such a difficult time.
You know, better than any of us, how your Dad affected those around him.
It was an honour to have met him, and I am sure his example will continue to inspire us. As has already been posted, he will be fondly remembered every time we see a target set impossibly high in a tree.
Best wishes to your and your family.

I have just found out at the NEFTA Closed shoot, I am still in shock.
I will remember him as one of the best FT course setters there has ever been, his laugh, eating spam out of the tin using the lid, his gunsmithing skills ( with a hammer) knocking targets over when he never hit the disc, there are too many memourable moments to list.
All the best Dave, we will not see your like again, but I am so glad to have known you.

Didn't know Dave that well, met him at Redferns cold and early one morning,Dave came over and we chatted for a quarter hour, he had an immediate warmth and sense of humour that made you immediately at ease.My loss, I would have liked to know him better.
R.I.P DAVE youv'e gone to a better place where the courses will be a lot harder from now on.

Having only just got myself registered with AirgunBBS, I would like to express my great sadness at hearing the news of Dave's sudden death. He was a very nice man and a top ambassador to our sport.
I have only known David for several years, but he was always very willing to help me with my shooting. It was a great privilege to assist him in the building of this years 'Showdown' and 'British Masters' Course at Newbury back in September 2006. I would also like to pass on my condolences to Pauline and Family at this very sad time.
