Received my Webley Omega carbine .177 through the post from BBS good guy Inspector 71 (Neil) today , and just wanted to express my gratitude to him for said deal. The rifle itself is in very good clean condition, and is an absolutely marvellous example of the make and model in question . In fact (and I'm expecting some flack for saying this but just don’t care ) IMO the Webley Omega is not only the best all round break barrel air rifle that Webley & Scott ever produced, it is also a better made and engineered rifle than any a BSA break barrel too (and I say this as a devoted BSA Mercury-S .177 owner). As I'm on a role I will go still further here and say that (again IMHO) the Omega is equally as good as my Weihrauch HW95K was when standard , and arguably better given the ergonomics of its stock. It is also better to handle than my Webley Eclipse MkI .177 was, but not quite as good as my MkII . Ha ha. Right then, flack-jackets and battle bowlers on boys, let me have it! ATB : Gareth W-B.

Hi Murphy, got all confused . Was referring to my Eclipse-K MkI .177, and yes, I did move it on. Have since bought a full length Eclipse MkII .177 however, and it is a completely different animal . Have edited my thread accordingly so it now read as follows:

I have to agree Gareth - the Omega is the best rifle Webley have ever produced IMO beating the Mk3, the Service, Eclipse, the Vulcan (Mk 1 & 2) and the Tracker/Osprey side lever variants.
Is that a two man flack jacket.

Gareth, I agree with every thing you say about the OMEGA,, I am so miffed with a so called mate he knew I wanted his OMEGA (mint.22 open sights) and he sold it for £125.00 WITH OUT ASKING ME FIRST. I have spent over 100 hrs working on his guns and never charged him a penny, said he forgot I wanted it, rant over, enjoy your gun mate they are the tops

Put the flak jacket away, I don't think anyone who has owned or used one of Webleys finest will disagree.
The fit and finish of both Webley and BSA was at its best at this time.
I had a 'K' version that I bought from Ramsbottoms for the sum of £100
It was a lot better than the AirArms offerings and well on par with the HW80.
Enjoy
Thanks for your words Graeme.C.177, it is always nice to find other people who think along the same lines as yourself. ATVB to you and yours and have a great weekend, but ...
Strewth £125! ... You can almost double that these days -- especially for .177. Mates like that eh? Ahhh well, all good things come to those who wait and all that . It took me nearly three years to get the walnut Sterling HR81 .22 Deluxe that I've just picked up, and am still looking for a Milbro Diana Series 70 Model 71 in .22, and whats the betting that as I am now all spent up until after the baby is born (number three -- due in August ), one comes along in mint condition for a bag of chips . Ha ha! ATB and keep looking matey, as another Omega will come up : Gareth W-B.

Iam a big Webley fan and owned a few Webley's,Ive still got three. The Omega not being one of them,Ive read loads of times that many consider it to be Webley's best but the Omega will have to be bloody good to be better than Webley's own Tomahawk and Longbow!!! I was told by someone inside Webley before the company folded that right up untill the end they were at the time working on a new underlever rifle, damn shame we will never get to see it now!

Anybody have a link to a picture and the specifications of "the best Webley break barrel of them all" prior to my passing judgment on this matter?

The cunning little devils . Wonder what else they cribbed? There was also an HW77 in the auction, pity they didn’t crib the trigger off that too eh ? But who cares (cared ) if they borrowed an Idea or two so long as the factory continued to produced well made and well priced middle-budget good bits of kit ? Hope the guy who allegedly (got to say allegedly for legal reasons) embezzled the Webley & Scott pension fund -- thus forcing the official receiver to come in and liquidate the company’s assets -- turns in his grave (when the time comes ). Anyway, ATB and thanks to all who have contributed to this thread : Gareth W-B.
