For anyone wanting a slightly cheaper option or a similar scope with IR available then the MK4 3-9x36/2.5-8x36 MR/T could be a viable option. The slightly lower mag and smaller objective means that the DOF is even greater than the 10x. However, as others have said they can be a leap of faith. So far mine isn't quite working for me for reasons I'm not yet able to pin down.

Out of interest to anyone interested in a Mk 4, here's an email
just received.
"Hi Derek,
Leupold say they can reparallax the 10x fixed scope to min 20 yards, max
approx 50 yards. It will cost $US 70."
Would this be a good move, or is the standard scope ok for the real close (8 yarders) ones as it is??
Derek

Hi Derek
This is what we found out a few weeks ago
most of our side focus scopes will focus considerably closer than the engineering spec we publish. Exactly how close varies by individual scope, though, so we don’t get too carried away. You are correct about some going down to 10 or so, though

Have a look at mine on sunday
With the parallex set at the 3rd dot(they dont have numbers on them, just a series of dots) (approx 25 yard spot on focus) at 15 yards its still crystal, as it is at 40 yards, at 45 its just starting to blur and the same at about 13 yards.
Its still the best view of 8 yarders out of any scope I have used when parallaxed at HFT distance of 23 to 27 yards
If you use the side parallax and turn it down to 1 dot it is crystal clear in focus at 8yards

Thanks everyone - this scope is a lot of ££££'s, so I really appreciate the advice from you all.
Will have to sell the Zeiss though .

The toxicity of lead varies, depending upon the weight of its doseage and its velocity!

With front objective adjustments, you can turn them either way without worry... BUT with side adjustment scopes, like the MK4-M3, the M3-LR, or the other LR family of scopes, the adjustment must ALWAYS be made from the infinity end of the dial. Turn the adjustment all the way until it stops (past infinity), and then start turning it in a little at a time, until there is no parallax. If you "overshoot" the proper setting, you can't just turn back a little, you must go back to stop at the end of the dial, and start over again
Comments please !

Very interesting information. Opened my eyes, no pun intended, a bit.
My MK4 arrives Wed but I'm off tomorrow for my next tour, so it will have to wait until May to set it up on the Steyr.
