But with an after-taste of ... must go, I've left the grill on

Even better - its what is known as the Diana "Boys Model" air pistol, recognised by the Diana huntress figure on the grip side, and dates from 1930- 1933. It didn't become known as the the Diana Model 2 until 1933, when the huntress figure was moved onto the top of the cylinder, leaving the grip sides plain. As the Model 2 version was made for a longer period (1933 to 1938), this makes the Boys model quite a bit rarer. Nickelled examples are rarer still. Looking at the condition of this one, I would say that a collector of pre-war vintage air pistols would happily pay £40-50 for it. You got yourself a great bargain there.
Cheers for the extra info, truly, greatly appreciated. Actually intended keeping one for my collection anyway, and now I know which one it'll be . As for getting a bargain ??? Tiz about time it was my turn .
Will probably keep the other chrome one for myself, too, and let my three kids play with the others (supervised, and when all are old enough that is, as my youngest is only two), as am sure I’ll be able to make or scavenge a screw-in probe to replace the one that is missing so as to make all three work etc . Agreed, and as they are where so many of us began (and where my kids will also begin), they are intrinsically important to many of us, important from a (British) social history perspective, and imho (fwiw), are an important starting point, and corner stone, for any air gun collection . Atb: G.

Yes, collecting vintage push-barrel or Gat-type air pistol can be great, not only because there are so many variations (they go back more than 120 years), but you can set up a nice collection without it costing an arm and a leg. For £40 you have already got a very desirable nickel pre-war Diana, one nickel and one black early Gat, and two black late Gats. You should now start looking for the pre-war British Limits and Britons, nickelled and blued, and the post war Milbro Diana 2's - but be warned, it does get addictive.
