Can anyone shed any light on this please?

    Good afternoon gentleman,

I've been given an odd tool I'm told is a 'slug maker'

All I know is that it is very old, & the old chap who gave it to me said that if you placed a piece of lead at the bottom & turned the press down, it pushed out a crude airgun slug... that's all I can you & all I know.

Could any of you experts advise accordingly please, I'd be most grateful.

    Kind regards

    Michelle

Yep! definitely a slug maker! I't a long time since I saw one of those.
I would like to own one but not allowed to attempt to buy/beg on this thread.
Definitely a conversion piece! Drop it in a container of light oil for a few days and then clean it up - nice find! ATB Eric

Not worth a groat really Michelle, but a nice piece of history to own. It took me back over 55 years when I saw it. Eric

    Slug press

Michelle, I collect gun related tools and I have never see one before so the value must be about the same as a very difficult to find 28 bore turnover tool which is £20-£40 depending on condition and how much original finish is left.

It looks very much like the tool used by vintage motorcyclists when the leather drive belt needed shortening or repairing. The tool can punch the holes in the belt to accept a connector.
Equally well it could be a punch for work on harness and saddlery.
Your local Vintage Agricultural Society or Motorcycle club might be able to confirm.

    Speaking as a medical man

may I also advise you, Michelle, to consult your GP at the earliest,

on the evidence of your photos you seem to have suddenly developed an advanced & pernicious form of Blokism or 'Hairy Hands'.

The transformation was almost shocking in its rapidity!

    On a brighter note,

There's a lot of it about recently...

leather drive belts aren't made out of a single strip of leather but lots of small pieces connected together which allows them to be easily shortened when stretched and easily repaired when broken,i'd say it was for an early form of body piercing.

Have you tried to make a slug out of a lump of lead with this item?

If so what did it look like?

Did it resemble anything like a airgun pellet
If it's not broke don"t fix it!
