Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.....
I'll go for a blow-pipe and a poison dart frog.
Bugger all to go wrong unless you inhale or the frog dies
On the basis that if the world did suddenly end in catastrophe there would be no opportunity to go shopping for the ideal rifle I would have to just grab one from my collection.
It would be a choice between the BSA Superstar or the HW35. Thinking about it the HW35 would be the one. Since I buttoned the piston and made a new fitted spring guide and top hat it is a stunning performer at 11.5 ft lbs on a standard spring (which had to be shortened slightly ) and is so well made it will go on for ever.
If I had the chance to raid the shops I think the new Webley Paradigm thingy might be a good choice if it turns out to be reliable. If you could find one.

Fac Diana 54 in .22 or maybe a nice Titan Mohawk with a multipump valve, .22 or .25.

ISP customised Falcon, cs 800 stock
From my cabinet my HW35K, but if I had the chance I'd choose a HW80 in .22 FAC.

ANY air gun is the scenario: not just one you currently own or have access to.

Particle physics gives me a hadron.
Sliced bread.
The best thing since ripped up bread.
Its for getting through the armoury door at the local private school (Cadet Force), won't need an air gun once I have me grubby mitts on a LSW.
Joking aside & sticking to the OP's rules, don't we all agree to stick to the 1 shot - clean kill policy so 1 shot + 1 backup is plenty for food hunting as that thing is deigned for big game hunting, how many people will a wild boar feed for a day? Plus at 500fpe its got enough poke to obliterate any zombies / mutants that get in the way.
But this is better for mutant bashing (not in the rules tho ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g77sLmw-UcY

There was a guy called Mel Tappen who used to write for Guns and Ammo on the subject. His answer was keep it simple, FWB sport and 10,000 pellets in a coffee can.
HW80 all the way

Ah,
but if you have a generator that will run your Mill & Lathe you could always knock something up - provided you had a selection of BCD bottles and PCP parts on the shelf
