Actually this sales commission is advertised as 22.5% (+VAT), so a £100 bid will cost you a bit over £126, a £1000 bid will cost around £1264.
There are other possible costs if you read through the terms and conditions. Some items may incur VAT on the hammer price, not just on the commission amount. And if you pay with your credit card it will add another 2%, or 4% if you use an American Express card.
Anyone intending bidding in any auction needs to understand the auctioneers terms and conditions and do their maths before deciding how much to bid.
