Indeed but where I am there arent any merchants. I did wonder about tyre shops but I think modern weights are lead free

Wheel weights are lead free these days. scrap merchant is best option for scrap lead pipe or roof flashing. Or find a builder who does house rip outs and get him to keep the old lead pipes.
when smelting down be careful for and water still in pipes, it will explode.
