I wonder how long it will be before someone mentions 'the amazing Melita'
Apart from me
Great old image(s) here, especially the range photo (will open larger if clicked on).

I bet she was a popular girl!
No wonder you broke your leg Pete.
Not the prettiest girl on the fairground...And with them teeth, fleshwounds are inevitable
Not sure where I`m going.....But I`ll get there someday
That's my nan you're talking about.

Now Look Here ! This is meant to be a serious thread
Ah ... The Onion Fair
I used to go there when I was a lad in the late 50's. Used to be held just off the main road in Perry Bar if I remember correctly.
Good fun ...
Cheers, Phil
And there's me hoping someone would possibly I.D. the rifles the two old dears are standing by
"Mrs Humphries who owned the shooting range and then handed it down to her daughters Clara and Ruth."

I can't tell you how hurtful that was.....(cut down 43" d actually)
The Amazing Melita obviously did not make the big time, I can find nothing else on the web, despite repeated searches for female contortionists (that's what I am telling Helen anyway...al research you see)
Hope you are healing well mate,
Eddie
Showing my age now ... I cannot recall the Serpentine. I remember the main Aston Villa gates just across from Aston Park ... with the HP sauce factory and the brewery (Ansells?) not too far away as you went down into Aston. I used to go to watch the Villa play in those days, but entered 'around the back' and not near the main entrance, or so I think I remember. Serpentine conjures up a lake ... I cannot remember a lake around there.
Perry Bar ( I think it was not Great Bar) was a mile or so away, closer to my home in Kingstanding, and easily reached by bus ... No 27 or 27a I think. Maybe even the No. 33.
Good old days.
Cheers, Phil
