    Weather .......

    ...... warning.

Just had this in an email from Metcheck, covering period from 21:00 tonight right through to 03:00 Monday.

Weather Watch for Gales / Heavy Rain / Landslips

Remnants of Tropical Storm Bertha will affect much of the UK during the course of Sunday.

There are two main areas to cover with Bertha, the first being the winds. Strong winds will pick up across South-west England during this evening and overnight and spread North-east affecting a large swathe of Southern and Eastern England during Sunday.

Gale force winds can be expected across the South-west and South coast and later South-east and Eastern coastal areas. Winds of 40-50mph with gusts of 60-70mph along the coast will cause dangerous conditions along all coastal locations. These gusts will extend inland during the afternoon leading to problems with fallen trees and branches. Road debris from foliage and falling trees could cause problems with transport and power networks.

The other main concern is rainfall. Bertha is an ex-Tropical system and as such contains more moisture than an average mid-latitude low. Heavy rainfall will affect many parts of Wales with 30-40mm across Western areas. Locally 50-70mm can be expected in a short period of time leading to an increased likelihood of landslips across prone terrain.

OK we have set a course.

After detailed discussions with my meteorological expert, a certain Michael "Fish" Biggles, I have decided to risk it and go ahead. There is a reasonable chance that we will get away with it - and on that basis I think it is worth giving it a go.

There will be bacon butties available at very reasonable prices courtesy of the range staff.

I hope very much to see as many as poss tomorrow and hope our gamble pays off!

If the weather is too bad we can always retreat to the car park and have a few practice line-ups...
