Nikko Striling Platinum 3-9x40 WA

Bought this for £55 from guess where.

These are quite old now, guessing late 80s early 90s with a gloss finish (Which I like).

It's in pretty good shape, the odd scratch and slightly worn turret cap but otherwise all good.

Quite a short scope at 11 1/2 inches or 29cm and weighs 389 g or just under 14oz.

25mm tube and non PA objective.

The focusing is crisp from about 15yds to infinity.

I have just compared it a Nikko Stirling Gold Crown, Bushmaster and Tasco Silver Antler. This is significantly brighter and clearer right through the zoom range. The zoom ring is a little stiff but OK.

I also compared it to a 3.5-10x50 Simmons WTC and reckon this matches it in clarity, possibly even betters it!

Haven't decided if this will go on a rimfire or centrefire yet.

Just my 2p worth, if you can find one for the same sort of money I'd bag one if you can

I have two 3-9x40AO amongst my collection and found the earlier one has a slight blue to the picture quality to it making the picture a colder yet brighter picture than the other one. Although all have crisp bright pictures though. I think the Koreans make some extremely good glass!!!!!!!

I have one of these, AO version, also has the cooler blue image. I'm missing a turret cap, was originally missing both but found one after a 5 yr search. They're atypically large. Tried loads, none fit. Another 5 yrs later still looking.

if i remember the original advertising correctly..the glass is made in Japan but assembled in Korea ...i have the 4-12 x50 AO but not in gloss and badged Webley platinum ...this scope was also rebadged for Parker Hale ... i did have a 3.5-10X45 non AO that i sold ..it was very nice but not optically as good as my 4-12x50..it had a little barrel distortion so objects look a little bigger in the middle of the image than the sides so looked strange when you move the scope

Yeah you are right, I have the Parker Hale 4-12x50AO on my Brumbow. The only difference is Premier instead of Platinum, Gold writing and Matt black body. Bought mine off here years ago and never seen another Still have all my Platinums and all still in use!!!!!!!!!
