Not that I've found. I've made a stock for a crossbow from laminated beech (Google Delignit) and also a pistol grip from beech/birch ply. Just keep your tools sharp.
Hi all,
How easy is it too work with laminated wood? I fancy making a stock and just wondered if it's much harder to work with than Walnut?
Is there any special tools needed or finishing processes.

A while ago I worked on a Boyd's laminated stock to suit a CZ 452 rimfire with no issues with no special tools or equipment necessary.
I believe they use birch ply laminates for their stocks which were fine to work although care needs to be taken when inserting something like a sling screw with a pre drilled pilot hole being necessary to prevent the spliting of the laminate !
This should be done in any case with all gun stock timber but especially so with laminates.

I didn't use any wood screws but instead used threaded brass inserts that expand into a drilled hole. I then fixed stuff with machine screws which look much nicer.

I remember reading it was the "glues" that made them harder to work on than solid wood.
never worked on it so can't say other than what I had read.
Tbf Laminate is the glorified name for plywood and is the same to work with , your tools will need to be sharp and they will go blunt quick but in all honesty is no difference from normal timber specially hardwoods , tools should always be sharp , good luck
I enjoy working with coloured laminate, it's nice and easy to work with and you can get some lovely coloured blanks made up.
I just finished one for my Air arms s510, only took around 10hours so far to get it at the stage it is now.

No special tools needed, only normal power tools required and a bit of time and patience.

Hi Markyboy, what do you use to produce the half round rebate where the cylinder sits in the stock? I have an old rough airsporter mk2 action for which I have an idea to make a stock and get the action cerekoted or something😀. I have a hand router and thought about getting a routing table for the above task.
