Just picked up an 77. Ser no. 1000101...any one got an older one? Mach 1.5
I'm afraid - not.
HW77 Mk1 was introduced with the change of the HW35 form leather to synthetic piston seal.
This happended in 1980 somewhere around serial number 843636 (not sure exactly).
BTW - I bought a HW77 Mk2 # 1.286.*** of 1993 in .177 recently.
Didn't open yet but it should have the 25 mm system.
My venom vantage is 1002542
No LSD but some nice Lager. LOL
But your pleasing comment made me check some other sources and it seems that HW77 was established earlier than 1980 indeed. All I could find so far sounds like early 197*.
So please accept my sincere and humble appologies.
I checked
http://www.weihrauch-database.eu/thelist
and the earliest entry of a HW77 (in .22) / ser. no. 683223 there is dated 1973 (estimated by computer).
So still not sure WHEN EXACTLY they came to the market.
Do YOU know more?

It was 1983 for the HW77 the SN 683223 on the database is more likely a HW35.
I know the 77 was co-designed by Robert Beeman AFTER he helped design the HW80, which was out in the UK in 1981 or about then. It was made for the nascent sport of FT which only started in 1980. Early 70s is just plain wrong, back then HW made the 55 and the 35 as their 'large rifles' and that was it.
The 77 was first sighted in 1982 according to Pyramidair

Thanks, as it's a very interesting question I went back to the HW-database (link once more below), sorted the models and found a heap of information concerning HW77 out of more than 2k entries.

This first line shows the entry I mentioned in my post above and seems to be incorrect.

These following entries seem to be more accurate and follow more likely your information (so very sad for Mach 1,5):
To all the bystanders - this does not mean that ser.no. 1 000 094 is the VERY FIRST one put on the market. It's only the first registered HW77 in this compilation. There might very well be even some earlier guns.

Great information. Thanks lads. So is the HW77 the greatest air rifle to date? Or should I be opening another thread? Mach 1.5
