White spirit should do it
Bought a walnut tx a while back, today I tried to oil the stock, but the oil will not soak in, I think it must have been finished with wax, is there a way to remove a wax finish?
White spirit should do it
6 months is a long time
I think they are finished with a laquer
Would white spirit affect the colour? and pretty sure it's not been lacquered
Methylated spirits? Would that be an option?
Wax will slow but not stop stock oil - it is dissolved by oil albeit slowly. You have almost certainly got some kind of lacquer/polyurethane finish - some of them are matt so don't go by the lack of shine.

TANSTAAFL
as above I had one like that
I took a chance on a cheaper walnut stock than the TX ….and I used an aerosol can of degreaser
The type used on oil on engine parts ..the sort that puts a foam where you spray.
Well how do you find out if you don't try it ??? we wouldn't be where we are today if folk didn't "try something"
Anyhow ...foam on.....agitate / rubbed it in ...wiped it off like you would an oily engine part …
let it dry ...
Came up a treat
No trace of any wax or oil ….basically as a virgin piece of walnut again.
Re oiled it to my taste.
thanks degs that could be worth a try
