    Home made painted target

    Hi all,
I wanted to make a contemporary version of an 18th/19th century style painted target for an upcoming gallery gun video.
They are normally painted on large round wooden panels and reflect something of the area or club it's being shot at, like this one:

I wanted to do one for my local HFT club, so put a knockover target in front of our clubs woodland grounds and added scoring rings and a wooden frame on photoshop:

Then ran it through an app that makes it look like a painting:

Printed out a foot across, cut out and mounted on some boards should make some great targets, then for my Hebelspanner video me and a few choice fellow shooters will have one each for a little 4 yard competition with darts, to mimic an after dinner parlour shoot.
I'll just have to source some nice German liqueur as a prize.

    Probably shoot with these:

    Can't wait.

    Cheers,
    Matt

That sounds like a great way to make shooting darts at a target even more fun.

Hmmm, maybe I need low powered smooth bore air rifle for indoor shooting?

    Hi Matt,

Bisley held a 5 part shoot a few years ago consisting of paper target, bell target, moving target, an FT target up a tree and splitting cards end on. The winners of each section went on to fire one shot each at a replica Schutzenfest target made by Andy Draper with the nearest pellet to the centre taking the title of Schutzen Koenig.

    Here's the target.

It was a most enjoyable comp and we'll need to do it again one day.

    Kind regards,

    John

    Hi John,

That sounds like my kind of vintage shoot. Me & the missus are hoping to join Bisley this year for vintage and HFT/FT. We’ve done HFT there a few times and really enjoyed it.

That target looks awesome, I just knocked mine up in a few hours but Herr Drapers one looks hand painted and very nicely done.
A fantastic Bisley representation of a Shutzenfest target.

    Thanks for sharing.

    All the best,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

If you want to make a copy of a genuine antique airgun target with a difference, why not duplicate this one of Mozart's? http://isabeau_austria.tripod.com/mo...zarthouses.htm

Too rude to show on here, but it's historical so it must be OK !

PMSL, would someone please translate the comments please?

Matt. What bore is that Hebelspanner please, and, how hard is it to get darts for?

    Hi John,
Thanks for that, not sure it would reflect to sprit of our club tbh!

You do get a very good account of German parlour type shooting from Mozart’s shooting diary’s though.
    Cheers,
    Matt

    Hi,
Turns out it’s actually around 6.2mm (.25 pellets pushed through the barrel end up this size) so .25/6.3mm darts are too big.
I was very lucky to be able to buy a handfull of 6.15mm darts recently from Germany, which are perfect.
I allocated some as spare and gave them to members on here who had guns they’d fit.

I believe they are very rare in this size.
Pm me if you need darts, I have a couple in other sizes too.

    Cheers,
    Matt
