So, the eye......

Is as was.

An appointment came through. For early June! Rang up and explained how much I'm struggling and that it needs looking at sooner. Revised appointment for the 20-something of May, so after the Bash. I can ring each day to see if there are any cancellations, which I'll be doing.

It's my right eye that's affected. Usually the better of the two and I'm right handed and right eye dominant. Most everyday things are affected and a pain.

Unfortunately, shooting is definitely affected.......On Good Friday the lad had a pistol plink. I had a few little goes. Couldn't see clearly at all. But as we were shooting cans at about 7/8 yards, I hit most (not all) using fibre optics. Couldn't use normal irons.

On Easter Monday I thought I'd try a scoped rifle. My tatty Supersport with sniper ret. image blurry as hell. This will usually do one hole groups, only just slightly larger than pellet size.....groups were over an inch and more than an inch high. So, as well as the blurriness, the brain's obviously getting dodgy messages.

I though I'd have a quick go yesterday with my old 35 on opens......Couldn't make the foresight or black bull out clearly. Ten yards and an inch and a half group (usually one tiny hole) and about 1 1/2" high. I ended up bringing the target back to six yards and aiming at 6 o'clock on the black bull to try and give contrast. Couldn't see either clearly still, but was better.....about a half inch group.

This is proving very troublesome and worrying. Affecting life and my cherished hobby. Really hope the treatment works when I finally get seen. I'll be at The Bash but won't be doing much shooting. But it'll be so good to see you all again.

But one thing yesterday's session did demonstrate was how much I enjoy shooting that old 35. Bought cheaply in 2008 as a "wrecker", gone through various guises, later fitted with V-Mach spring and guide kit and, more latterly, the longer stroke synthetic head piston courtesy of Mick......the thing just shoots so beautifully. Firing cycle so benign, quick but not harsh and trigger like breaking a fine glass thread. Beautiful. I need to keep shooting these things for many years to come.
