    Crosman 600

    I recently purchased this Crosman 600 at Kempton Park. It is true what they say.. this is probably one of the most enjoyable air pistols I have ever shot, and I only collect springers.


    I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the meaning of the serial number.. which appears to be 083737.

    They are certainly good fun and can become very addictive. Make sure you stock up with plenty of cartridges and pellets, you will need them.
    I too have problems trying to decipher dates from Crosman serial numbers and haven't managed to date any of mine.
    I have the book of the Crosman 600 somewhere, but can't find it at the moment.

    Thank you. Im also find it quite confusing. On 'PTDUNK's excellent Yutube channel he says that the serial number on his Crosman, 6104, means it was made in April 1961. As mine is stamped with 083737, I have no idea where that leaves the date!

    pre 75 or 6 the serial number doesn't relate to it's age afaik
    sheridans in the 60's had a 4 digit number stamped on the breech that in reverse gave the month and year prior to them putting a serial number on
    the 600 can be dated by the stampings from what i was told along with the type of safety and the screw type holding the grips
    these more confirm which variant it is with the first having a screw piercing cap the second having a piercing valve and the 3rd having a strike piercing cap

    thats for the entire range from crosman
    i can ask Tom Slocum in the US who no doubt will know if the serial number can be dated
    these are some of the variations in them (from a GTA post)

    1) Steel vs aluminum triggers
    2) Three different piercing caps
    3) 5 hole sideplate vs. 6 hole sideplate (not interchangable)
    4) Radial stroke of the safety & corresponding slot length
    5) Length of the safety slot on the left stock panel
    6) Some have the stop (p/n 90) & stop roller (p/n 92); probably coincides with the 5/6 hole sideplate thing.
    7) Brass vs. aluminum valve body
    8) Obviously various "pat pend" and "Crosman 600" locations on the frame
    there was a great post with pics from 2004 that highlighted the marking differences but sadly the photo's aren't visible now

    I've now found D.T.Fletcher's book on the 600/677, and unfortunately it gives no information on serial numbers.

    Make sure you keep it pointed downrange when it's got gas an pellets in it.
    I had one briefly and it had a habit of going full auto when the gas ran low.....

    Now full auto be good on close range ratting

    Not kidding! At least it wasn't pointing at my toes when it went off on one!
