They almost certainly sub-contract the subscription's out to a specialist subscription agent, check the postal address
, the new publisher probably just uses a different agent.
All the phone staff will know is that the magazine has been removed from their list of titles, so natural for them to assume it's gone.
I had it the other way when Shooting Sports was stopped, I paid to renew my subscription, but a few days later I had an e-mail from the publisher saying they'd stopped the magazine,
I phoned the sub's number to complain & they knew nothing about it.
