Thanks for the link it was fascinating. I will be giving the Mk6 a miss... I am off Gamo at the moment despite my user name. The Lightening looks very intersting as does the Supersport (I have a carbine of this model in .22 and it is a favourite) but they all look to have the same stock! I cant really work out what is different about them!

The supersport has std length barrel and no "maxi grip" rail.
The old Lightning has a 10" barrel and a large silencer, plus the maxi grip scope rail.
Then there was the XL version that had a 10" barrel, and a slimmer silencer, plus a stock more adapted to scope use.

Thanks Evert I would not have picked up those differences myself. The older gun with a 10" barrel sounds rather interesting

I looked for and older thread with more info on the Supersport/Lightnings, and it seems we have discussed this some time back:

My memory is really not what it used to be!

I had completely forgotten about that! Just read it and it was like a little bit of time travel!! I have to say my BSA is one of my favourite guns and I should like in time to try another in a different calibre, never had a .25 in any rifle so that would be the one just out of curiousity

Just bought a cheap Mk6 meteor with broken triggerguard..
I have not had the heart to cut down any meteor barrels yet, but this is bought with the intention to create a Mk6 carbine reproduction!

So.. can anyone with a factory meteor/supersport carbine barrel measure how long the barrel really is?
They are supposed to be 14.5 inches or so, but it would be nice to know the exact length in mm's before I start cutting!

Perhaps this link below will explain it all. It states that BSA did manufacture a Meteor in standard and carbine lengths.

I am not sure the info in the link is correct as the weights remain the same

I have a meteor barrel here at around 15" length, not sure if someone has cut it or its how it was originally but it does not have a counterbore at the muzzle looks like the end of any other bsa without the counterbore but no doubt a decent engineer could do that easily

Carbine only mentioned against the MK6 version, which I think we’ve already established.

Evert, I have the Supersport Carbine but the barrel weight is on very tight, I will wrestle with it this evening if you dont get any joy before. I think your conversion will look excellent, never cut a barrel myself but I think GGGR has lopped more than a few.

Thanks, but I got impatient, and the barrel got cut at 25,4mm x 14,5 last night
Now I need to find some aluminium rod large enough to machine a muzzle weight!

Is it blued at the muzzle? As the Meteor/Supersport carbines have the muzzle weight, they may not have the same counterbore?
Come to think of it, a friend has an XL Lightning with a carbine barrel, just need to get him to take the gun with him the next time we meet.

A little extra piston weight with a steel tophat, sized AA seal, plus some preload on the Maccari/ARH spring on a fitted delrin rear guide gives nice recoil and 670-680 fps with H&N Excite Econ 7,4grs pellets. Thats 7,5fpe, but theres room for some more spacing on this spring.
I'm hoping for a little extra energy when I try JSB's.
