One of mine had a brake.

It was a Brocock air cartridge revolver when they were legal. It had been converted to .25 cal and as a result the engine became too powerful and the pistol had to be modified to reduce power - stay legal and all that. It was done by filing a shallow curve groove into the start of the barrel - the point where the rotating cylinder mates up with the barrel. That allowed some small escape of the compressed air. Result: legal power and unfortunately lots of noise. This could have been a fairly easily reversible modification.
