Certainly spoilt for choice, Danny, but I would say most of the 'estimates' are totally unrealistic, particularly for the older rarer items.
I see they have a Crosman 400 amongst the lots, for which I could be tempted to bid, but it will be interesting to see what it makes.

I’ve occasionally used auctions over many years of collecting but not too much these days.
Sometimes you can pick up the odd l, nicely priced rifle, but getting harder to achieve this these days. If you’ve not bought at auction before, consider:
1) Estimates are usually quite low..aimed at attracting bidders, not often reflective of eventual hammer price
2) Fees often add nearly 30% to the hammer price
3) Collection must normally be within a few days before STORAGE charges apply
4) Delivery is not always offered, so has to be arranged, via RFD, at additional costs all round
5) Gun condition can sometimes be disappointing

Good luck if you choose to go for it….set your top price though (it’s easy to get carried away!)

Believe at Stroud Auctions they use a courier and will deliver to door. You need to be on and have id eg drivers licence bit like Pellpax do.

Looks like you're right, Steve.

I asked the firearms specialist at Stroud, Stuart Maule, to confirm this out of my own interest and he said:

"We offer a full in house postage service so items can be sent directly to home addresses (with an over 18 check where necessary) The cost of this will be between £10-32 per parcel depending on size, weight, value etc and multiple purchases can obviously be combined... We also offer a full condition report service so if people want to know about condition or more images they just need to send us an email."

I have never dealt with this auction house before , so it would be useful to know from anyone on here who buys from the February auction, what sort of experience they have.

If I had a role in this John, it was not intended! I was just passing on information. I have reservations about buying from auctions, at least remotely. This one does seem to have a lot of vintage guns and wisely makes it fairly easy to get your hands on them though.

I've bought a fair few items at Stroud, and I was never aware that they delivered; saying that, I usually drive up to collect on the Saturday after the sale, and I'm home again before 10am. I've nevere had any problems with anything I've bought from them, whether it was airguns and shotguns, to lathes and pottery. The hammer prices do seem to be on the high side though.

Yes Stroud deliver quite effectively. I find that even though the estimates are meant to be a 'honey trap' to make you bid, putting a low bid, if you are interested, at least gets a foot in the door and sometimes, surprisingly, wins!

Well, I weakened and tried to place a bid or two on this one, and my experience has reinforced my earlier impression that they are complete and utter clowns.

I spoke with Richard Mirfin a week or two again the owner of AG Glos and he said he has packed up as an RFD and shop closed all stock will be catalogued and sold at Stroud soon.

Re AG Glos. That's a shame. Had hoped to pay them a visit sometime...but never did. Guess I was part of the problem.
