    Cutting cases to length?

I've noticed a few people lately trimming their cases to below the recommended trimmed case length.
For example on 223 REM, maximum case length is 1.760", minimum recommended is 1.750", I've seen cases trimmed to below minimum recommended.

Views on doing this? any danger aspects?

Funnily enough I was reloading some .223 yesterday and trimmed a couple of cases back to just under 44.7mm or 1.76” - they were very marginally over 44.7mm as I use my vernier like a feeler gauge. I use a Lee case trimmer which takes them back to just under 44.7mm.

If I trimmed them shorter, I’m pretty sure they’d just stretch to fill the chamber and thin/crack the necks prematurely?

The rifle shoots far better than me out to 600yrds with factory dimension ammunition, so I’ve never felt the need to experiment with going outside standard parameters!

Yes I do the same, scrap cases when below minimum case trimmed length.

If the case headspaces on the rim or the shoulder then I think it shouldn't be a problem. As long as the headspace is right, any crimp is consistent and the bullet is seated to the right depth for the rifling.

Too long a neck is much more likely to push up pressures.

If the case headspaces on the rim (like many pistol calibres designed for automatics) then it is an explosion waiting to happen.
