Older PCP's. Still going strong and doing the business?

I'm just after browsing through an early 2000's airgun magazine. Adverts for PCP's like the Logun Sweet 16, Mk 2, Gladiator, Dominator, RWS Scimitar, Rapier, Daystate Harrier X, Theoben MFR, Webley Spectre, FX2000, Superviper, Falcon Raptor, Alros Trailsman, Skan Mini, Career 707, Gunpower Stealth, etc.

The HW100 and AA400 names were also there but it made me wonder how many of them are still going strong and being regularly used after nearly 20 years. Or is it a case of old age, a lack of spares, or newer shiny things have relegated most of them to the bin?

Older PCP's. Still going strong and doing the business? Your Message

I've got 2 titans from the early 90's, an mpt .22 bought off here that was just resealed late last year for the first time by the loganator & a mc10 .177 just restored & reblued by paul chell that i got locally for a great price earlier this summer. I've got an early .177 bsa hornet single shot too just resealed by the loganator when he did my titan mpt last year for the first time too .

I know of a couple of Airarms Shamels that are in regular use and I have seen two Ensign Elites( big grey aircartridges) that get regular usage.... But I have also seen 5 Daystate's that belonged to a well known pest control company retired due to age with nothing wrong, just old!

I have absolutely no interest in the latest airairguns even though I can value their efficiency and technology..love my rapids..I like a nice sporter style air rifle and they are nearly a thing of the past now

I have quite a few older models, mainly due to the fact that I’ve never managed to bring myself to sell them when I’ve bought more modern stuff. A couple of LR90’s, a full length and a carbine bought new in 96 & 97, a Webley Axsor, an unused Daystate X2 (unused because until recently my go to rifle was the full length LR90), a beautiful handling RWS series 50 and a couple of Theoben Rapids. All working as good as the day they left the factory and all still capable of outshooting me and holding their own in the field against a modern rifle

I think the resale value of the Rapid series says it all! I've owned two in the past, and regret selling them both..... a very early Mk1 in .177, and then an MFR in .20

Simple but robust engineering, easily maintained (if it ever went wrong, which they rarely did), while I'm sure that if you found a Mk1 wrapped up in oily rags and never used since new and compared it side by side with a brand new multishot PCP from an equivalent price bracket it would appear very crude I'm certain that in thirty years time with average use the Mk1 would still be going strong

I still have an RWS Excalibre, lovely looking rifle with nicely grained walnut stock, bluing good and very accurate.
Not hard to work on, I recently did a full reseal myself with an original RWS seal kit

    Older PCPs

Hi, I like the older Daystates, I have 3 Harriers and 2 Huntsman classics, all of these rifles are accurare and consistant good enough for hunting with.
    Cheers Paul

I have a Falcon FN19 that holds air indefinitely, unlike my more modern PCPs.

The youngest of my Rapids is knocking on 14 years old, the oldest not far off 20, I've never even considered that they're particularly "old" or need to be replaced.

    Galway Fieldmaster (c.1983/4)
    Air Arms Shamal (c.1987-89)
    Sportsmatch GC2 (1988)
    Titan Manitou MC10 and MS20 (c.1990)
Daystate Huntsman (Mk2) Midas June 1990
    BSA Spitfire SF (c.1999)
    RWS Rapier (c. 2000)

All serviced within the last few years and all shot several times a year. Most of them boringly accurate.
