    Holiday with your gun

Gents in a few weeks we are scheduled for a short uk break Anglesea I think.

Apparently the cottage has a large garden/field attached

Has anyone ever taken a gun on uk holiday for bit of plinking ?

Obviously I'd need try ask the owners permission first which could prove tricky as it's I didn't book but no doubt be through third party website but wondering if anyone has done before ?

My gut says not worth asking as can see owner of holiday let just instant no to the word gun but has it been done before?

Never thought about it but once there was a family holiday in a large farmhouse, several families, huge farmhouse. It was a working farm as well. This house was definately a holiday let & large immaculate garden with patio etc. I had no idea what to expect untill I arrived. One day the owner popped round to see if all was OK, conversation got round to shooting ,& garden air rifle plinking would of been ok providing no trace was left. I would say this would be the exception though.

That's my initial thoughts but then it was pointed out to me by another person going (12 of us) that most people anti gun and the mention of the word could tarnish us gun loonies before we arrive. Potentially causing issues

Personally I couldn't be arsed. I can shoot whenever I want, i can quite happily go a week or two without picking up a rifle. I'm actually in a cottage at the moment in Pembrokeshire and it never crossed my mind to ask if I could bring an air rifle.

In light of that further information, maybe not the best idea, then.

Funnily enough, pre covid, I used to regularly holiday in Angelsey (Ynys Môn), taking a couple of air rifles up with me. The rental property had a long garden, backing onto farmland. Landlord was disappointed I refused to shoot seagulls nesting on the property, but joined in a couple of plinking sessions.
Amusing/frightening thing was my stepson (who drove us up there), in his early forties at the time, was paranoid about having a couple of legally cased rifles in the boot - seemed to expect a SWAT squad to leap on us as we drove up.

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

I was talking to the owner of a campsite when air rifles came into the conversation.
" Have you got one with you, there's these squirrels."

I disagree. Its always worth asking.
I went to a place on the south coast and the farm was a working one. Ended up hunting with the poacher turned game keeper. Took the rifles on further visits.
Make sure you state your experience (never bullshit) and state you are insured and can supply evidence.
Rather assumes there is a safe place to plink or hunt but you dint ask - you don't get do you
