My leg muscles do ache after walking even a few hundred yards but I’m sure that’s down to being so inactive for over a year whilst in pain. I really need to exercise more.

That's brilliant, Pauly. Made up for you.

Yes, I believe spirits boast excellent medicinal powers, the alcohol chasing away unwanted internal moisture from where it's not wanted. Honest!

Yep. Try and get out walking a little more, Pauly. Shorter walk to start with and then gradually build the distance up. You'll surprise yourself with how quickly strength and stamina come to you. It'll help with all-round health, fitness and well-being too. Taking in the fresh air and observing things around you. And you might bump into people and have a pleasant natter, too, which I would imagine would be most enjoyable in a smaller community such as yours.

    Doctor Tone.

P.S.....where's the nearest pub? That could be your first target. And then, if you had one or two more to go at that are further away, they could be your future targets to incentivise yourself.

We’ve had rain but nowt like elsewhere in the country thankfully. We get our fair share here mind you with The Wye and The Severn and The Forest of Dean being twixt the two. Fortunately, I’m on fairly high ground here in Coleford so no real chance of flooding (touch wood). Strong winds can cause problems with fallen trees across roads everywhere locally but thankfully that hasn’t happened.
It's great to hear how well the recovery is going Paul. Some people take longer than others, and it looks like you're amongst the quick healers.
A friend of mine who had the same op' as yourself was really slow with his recovery but all is going well for him now and he's in discussions with his physio regarding going jogging again. His physio says it should be ok but he's frightened of doing damage.

I’d say I was 100% recovered after 10 weeks Gary and both the Consultant and the Physio said I was ahead of the game healing-wise.
I’d say fear of doing damage is what is slowing down your friend. Yes, in the early weeks you need to be very careful but after a few months the muscles should all be knitted back and soft tissue healed. I’ve read and been told that dislocation is the ‘highest’ risk and that is only 0.2% of cases of total hip replacement these days.

Mmmm, There are two, both around half a mile or less either side of me Tone, I’ve been in one of them four or five times when I’ve had visitors over, the other one I’ve never been in! Both nice little country pubs. Back in London, I used to spend far too much time in pubs, particularly in my last few years there. Always went for a pint or three after work. I started becoming part of the furniture in a couple of pubs. I made a conscious decision when I retired and moved here five years ago not to become part of the local pub scene as I know it would be all too easy for me to adopt the habit quite quickly.

Sounds like a good plan you had Paul, I’d recommend a good podcast or audio book something that grabs your interest the time will soon pass and you will be clocking up the steps.

Very good points and very well done to sticking to those resolutions, Pauly.

Well I've managed to dodge it these last few years, but Covid has finally struck. Thought I'd had a bad cold all week, but done a test last night, bugger. We had a private compartment booked for a meal with my parents on the steam train on the Nort York Moors tomorrow

I even managed to dodge it when our lass got it late last year, she hasn't been so lucky. Yep, she tested positive yesterday as well. Think I'm now staring to come out the other end, she has just started yesterday.

That’s a real bummer Dave, hope it’s only a mild one for you both. Can you get a refund or change the dates for the steam train trip ?

Hard luck Dave, best thing is just sit tight and ride it out.
Both me and the wife caught it together about 18 months ago. Not much different to a flu type virus but didnt break out into serious flu or illness, just felt a bit dizzy with aches and pains for a day or two.
Most frustraing thing apart from being stuck indoors was waiting for the "Test Line" to disapear each day as the virus ebbed away !

Unfortunately no. I think I will be ok tomorrow, I thought I was clear when I did a test this morning, but when I've double checked, there is a very faint line. Hopefully I will be ok for tomorrow, but out lass certainly won't be.
I've asked my sister to take her place, great
