    BSA Supersport mk1 spring

Hello bought a supersport mk1 .22 awhile ago and refinished the stock and blued the metal work. But wanted to replace the old spring but not sure which length to get as the old spring is 34coil and loads of preload not sure if it’s original or not ? Anyone know what the correct spring size should be, thanks.

Yeah I did get one but it’s super long it was impossible to compress it enough to get it in the rifle.

What spring did you order? A lot of the BSA springs I have to use a spring compressor to fit

I ordered the - BSA Standard Mainspring Part No. 160672,

Ah do you I was trying to do it with brute force, maybe it’s normal then I just need a spring compressor.

As Paul says above, you really need a spring compressor, if you had bought something like a Titan spring then you probably would need to shorten it a bit but I would of thought a standard spring would drop straight in.
Far too many rifles to list now, all mainly British but the odd pesky foreigner has snuck in

Unless you are built like a body builder with at least one extra arm you will need a spring compressor and a little tool to push the spring guide and spring past the hole for the pin that holds the whole lot in place.

It looks to similar to the Meteor layout and even the humble Meteor benefits from using one. I made mine from plastic plumbing pipe two layers glued together for strength and I use a sash clamp ( with care) as a compressor.

If you look on the bay there is a tool for the Meteor BUT that might not fit your Supersport but it clearly shows the design.
The more I think I know, the more I realise the less I know.

Yeah I did get one of them, I think I’ll have to have another go, but get someone else to put the pin in so I can use both hands to push it down !

thats the correct spring, even the standard springs need a spring compressor.

These powerful springs where you need a spring compressor must not be good for any air rifle. Firing such guns give harsh recoil you wonder what extra fps you gain in the long run over a shorter spring better washer etc for a 12ftlb rifle.

Yeah bsa must be an inefficient design or something as my 95k and tx200 have virtually no preload and are a lot more powerful.

The Supersport has a LOT of preload compared to other rifles.
I'm using the Titan #1 in my Supersports and Lightnings, uncut on tight delrin guides, and get excellent results.
It is a bit close to 12fpe in .22, but over here thats not an issue.
    Too many airguns!

Used to do them many years ago without a compressor. Wouldn't want to try tackling one without these days. Yes, the S'Sport set-up is like the Meteor. Just a bit beefier.....approx 28mm vs 25mm. Many use a"tool" made from a dowel.

It would be very interesting to try a shorter, stiffer spring in these, mainly for ease of fitting with the much reduced preload.
