Testing is inconvenient because it involves two trips to a tester, will become increasingly expensive and might become more onerous in future. Many bottle owners do not bother with the hassle of tests and either stop using the bottle or sell it. Shorter lifespans when bought mean that bottles fetch less money when the initial owner tries to sell it. Initial buyers should ask for discount if the bottle is already a year old.
In any case, there is no need for shops to sell year old bottles at a new price. It does not take a year from a bottle being made until it reaches a shop in the UK. Two or three months, maybe. Therefore, buyers should ask shops to order a bottle for them so as to maximise the life of the bottle or to ask for a discount if it is an older bottle. A good shop will happily place an order or offer a discount.
Each to their own, but with logic like this you must get everything at a discount, or be constantly frustrated why not

Most hobby or specialist items can be bought at a discount. Always ask for a discount and always offer cash. Saves thousands of pounds over a lifetime.

The bottles all come into the UK in containers and are assembled at the suppliers. We as retailers can not specify what dates we want.

Ive just had a delivery of 3ltr, 5ltr & 7ltr bottles new this morning all dated 06/2023, we still have to pay full price for them!!

That's a problem if they stock to many , Most of mine have been new from go dive derby , All with near enough 5 years test on them, They have a fast turnover so their stock dont hold , Normally get them within a day or so aswell, I would expect a gun shop to be a few months out but any more than that then they need to re think if its worth the hassle , Unless people are happy to buy them as they come of course.
