    yup, and as I said above, you can see why... 20 tpi is really a bit coarse for this application; 28 is far less likely to come loose.

    Sorry but when did anyone make 1/2" 20tpi 'the standard' ?

    It might be the most common on UK air rifles & rimfire, but there are plenty of manufacturers & countries that prefer other threads, 28tpi is more common in the USA.
    And more threads equals more surface area, equals more holding power, equals a stronger join.
    Parker and hale silencers have been made long before going back as far as the war. As for the finer thread, a bad idea, reason easy to cross thread a finer thread. The next thing we will have is another wag making another thread size. The only reason for another thread size and to make it standard is to to make one, and only one that will fit the smaller barrels like the Titan models or Steyr barrels which you have to use a push fit adaptor with grub screw.

    There are many different thread sizes for moderators that have been in existence for many years including variations of 1/2" dia, 5/8" and up to M28.
