    You thought right - you can not zero a springer by clamping it! The clamp idea the OP posted is I think just a simple way of safely resting the rifle between shots - a bit like 10m target air rifles sometimes have a bipod attached even though they are shot standing.

    These are great tips which I wouldn’t of thought of , and quite a few free examples for a new to sighting a scope .

    Very good tip for guns that don't have a flat profile to the stock.

    Very late to this party having just joined the forum.

    I have put flat plates on the front of my rifles for bench rest shooting. They will stand up on their own.
