It looks really sweet, Paul, with its natural oak looks (some smoothed off, some deeper more relieved areas and a bit of smoothed-off bark showing) and banded up with green flat bands and a small Wasp pouch.
I'll see if a certain little BoingerPeep can post the piccy on this thread if I forward it to him.![]()

Just 28 to go, peeps.
Yep, four weeks.
This thing's going to be on us in no time at all. Get the mad rush of Christmas and the New Year out of the way and that'll be another sizeable chunk gone.
Today's the Winter Solstice, so that'll be the shortest day out of the way (okay, sunrises continue to occur a tiny bit later for a while whilst sunset is already happening ever so slightly later than on the 16th). That's a huge landmark ticked off.
As we settle into the New Year we'll only be a fortnight away from thus inaugural Doncaster meet (hopefully this will be the first of many) and I think people wil be clamouring to get on board. So if you're even half-considering this, I'd say be signing up pretty soon whilst there are a few places remaining.
Although it's being organised as a spin-off from the Boinger Bashes, all power plants are welcome, as they are at the Bashes themselves. Just be safe & legal and abide by the rules of the range.

Nice Catty Tony, you are going to need a red & black striped jumper to go with it
My apple tree needs a really good prune this year, I'll have to look for a good Y shaped branch
Not long now to the Donny bash, all details at the start of this thread. Inc link to the range where you can see what it's like & what you can & can't use, ie no BB's, lead pellets only. Springers, rammers, pneumatics & PCPs welcome. Pellets, targets, snacks & drinks available at the range.
State your interest on here or PM me or Tony if you want to come along.
Thank you, Paul.
Haha re the Dennis the Menace mention!Must get me one of those.
Funnily enough, earlier this year, a few months after I had got my Wasp Enzo, I saw that they did a Dennis the Menace catapult. Looks cool as.I told one of my bike customers about it and he bought one.
Yep, I've recently bought a folding pruning saw and plan to harvest more catty forks. Although I'll be sticking to fallen branches. Oak, ash and beech all good. And I'm sure I saw it mentioned that fruit tree wood is often good, too.
Such a cheap and rewarding hobby....making your own is good fun and you can customise as you feel fit. Band sets are cheap (even cheaper if you make your own) and ammo costs minimal if you use a catch box and re-use the balls.![]()

The trouble with fallen branches is that they tend to be dead wood & therefore brittle. We are coming up to tree cutting & pruning season so tree surgeons will be out & about. Might be possible to get some Y bits via those fellas if you can catch them before it all goes in the wood chipper.
I'm wondering about using plywood, I could glue two bits together & then cut a Y with my jig saw & sculpt it with my powerfile & have a fancy laminated one out of scrap
BTW how do you fix the band to the frame ? Not something I'd want to get wrong for obvious reasons.
The now surplus link fulcrum arrived, looks brand new. Top service from Protek.
The main problem with the Sirocco and Evolution is that they have Theoben written on them
Pete
I travel alone
Cheers for the tips re branches, Paul; I'll keep a look out. I have asked a couple of people to keep an eye out, too.
You most certainly could use a good plywood. Or a plank of just about any hardwood, I guess. The lovely little one that Pete gave me last year was a laminate one and it's a beaut.
I could definitely fancy making a few from plywood and solid ash, beech etc.
Sounds like you have the right tools for the job (I don't) to make it easy and quick.
If you ever get the chance, go on the Catapult Carnage YouTube channel. There you will find LOADS of tutorials on how to make catapults from various woods etc. There are also lots of good vids from other people.
The main ones that have helped me in terms of technique, making them, making and tieing bands etc. etc. are the Catapult Carnage, Catty Shack and Gamekeeper John YouTube channels. To tie the band set to the frame, I used the "wrap and tuck" method, illustrated by all these helpful people (and more besides).
Good news re that fulcrum. Do keep them safe. Is it up and running yet? Protek are nice, helpful, genuine peeps.
P.S......Ready made band sets, rolls of band (so many types and thicknesses available), pouches, tieing ribbon and other helpful accessories widely available from Catty Shack and Wasp Slingshots.![]()
