George Lincoln Jeffries headstone fundraising appeal

    https://www.gofundme.com/f/george-li...-the-air-rifle

The fundraising appeal is as follows:

Hi, my name is Robert Jeffries and I’m looking to raise funds to carry out the restoration work necessary to repair the headstone of my Great grandfather, George Lincoln Jeffries, who was recognised as the person responsible for the invention of the modern day air rifle and hence, on his headstone it states exactly that.

To many enthusiasts, he played a major part in the invention of air rifles and also, a little known fact, shot guns, and, as such, it is important to many that his headstone is repaired so that he is remembered for his designs and innovations for ever.

The estimated cost for the work is £5000.00. Some of the costs will be paid by the Jeffries family but they would welcome donations, small or large, mainly from the shooting fraternity & the enthusiasts who value his input in to their favourite past time.

I hope that you will be able to help?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

    Kind regards,

    Robert Jeffries.

Thanks for posting this Danny. Let’s hope they reach target. I know there’s living family, but it is a good cause and a shame to see our airgunning heritage slowly disintegrating that way.

A little note to anyone who donates via gofundme - their ‘commission’ amount can be adjusted by using the slider underneath it.

A very well worthwhile cause which will hopefully restore the stone marking his final resting place to it’s former condition so that it can be appropriately maintained for future generations.

A good cause. It would be great to see the stone lifted up again and restored. I have seen it many times and felt sad about it's poor state. I told the Friends Of Warstone Lane Cemetery about the significance of that gravestone.
A few years ago, I co-ordinated with one of my local churches to restore the headstone of Frank Clarke. The vicar, churchwardens and groundstaff did a great job in restoring it and now I visit it often to maintain and monitor its condition.
Between them, Frank Clarke and George Lincoln Jeffries basically invented the modern air pistol and modern air rifle (springers, anyway!).,

Thanks Ashley. Í'd forgotten about this. £435 isn't very good considering the size of our community. Most people should be able to raise at least a fiver for a cause such as this...

Wow! I see John Atkins has really boosted the fund. But, in an ideal world, still quite a bit further to go.

Yep, the appeal is looking healthier with that superb effort from John Atkins and others but still not good enough considering how many visitors there are to collectables. I'll definitely be making another contribution after the next gallery 'auction'.
