Ideally you want to clean it thoroughly and then use a dry lubricant like graphite.

Can you get it to bits? A bit of alcohol shouldn’t damage the surface finish (like acetone probably would).

Failing that, WD40 has enough white spirit in it to ungunge things, but can then be a source of new gunge…
