Thanks fellas, For some dumb reason I had always considered it Beech, not having anything like the figuring of the Walnut Export, I assumed it good beech. Mine is a bit like the regular beech, nice and dark but with bit more grain.
Mine has the Bavarian comb and rounded base of grip with very fine tradition chequering. Maybe the best chequring I've seen on an air rifle stock.

No play time today. Shopping and house duties earlier and I'm out for a meal shortly (work colleague retiring).

Tomorrow's out too as I have an eye injection in the morning.

Play time has been at a premium recently so no movement on this project.

However, my "pretend" Dremel (an Aldi one) has now been located, so I might, hopefully, get an opportunity next week for some tinkering.

    Update

So, sorry for the delay on the update, although I have been doing so on the Boinger Bash Dates thread.

In short - cocking lever has been dressed so cocking is fine. The shortened breech latch didn't quite seem to do the trick. But a new one does. It's been built a couple of times. Feels lovely but power is low.

I wasn't sure if the low power was down to leaky breech syndrome or the very slack piston seal fit (even with a new seal fitted). I was considering going to leather, but upon inspecting the TP, it's sub 3.5mm.

So, I contacted NickG and had a word re doing an 'O' ring conversion, so we'll get a bespoke, perfect fit and to do the leaky breech as, although I've done one before and all seems good with that one, I know Nick is a perfectionist and will do a better job than I can with his experience, knowledge and better workshop environment.

The cylinder and piston are currently with Nick. I received an update yesterday and a picture of the piston sporting it's shiny new and bespoke piston head with 'O' ring fitted. It looks positively beautiful. Just the breech void to do.

Getting very giddy and excited and very much looking forward to getting it back together and trying it out.

When I was a lad I had my 35 Luxus Super Venom converted. It was fitted with an o ring piston head just like the one you have there Tony.

Forum member Jonbaz still has one, the giveaway that it was a Venom was the white nylon roller on the cocking arm --- just as Dave and Ivan described in their HW35 tuning article in an airgun magazine.

    All the best Mick

just received a .177 HW35 barrel in the post. Along with the synth sealed piston I obtained a while back, and a pretty decent HW35 in need of a tuneup I got just after my op, I think I have the basis for a nice little 35 resurrection project. Will need to use a spring compressor though... still one armed ! Might try and build it with a weedy spring to give me something I can actually cock for a the next few months (no laughing !)

I find it very therapeutic building a gun up from parts obtained from all over the country, Jon.

    Weird ain't it.

yeah, I kinda feel like Dr Frankenstein when I fire those few few, satisying shots... "It's alive.......!"

My Theoben E-type was probably the most extreme example I've done - bits from Czech Repubic, Italy, Germany, UK and Spain

You be taking it easy, Jon, and don't be doing anything to set your recovery back. How are you doing now? On schedule with everything? What timings are we looking at until you can get back to anything resembling "normal"?
