    BSA GRT Lightning Beartrap

I got my rifle out today as havnt shot it in a while. Ok the first few shots then the trigger locked up. Safety on or off, cant decock the rifle. When I removed it from the stock the ABT wire fell out. I have located where it goes on the cocking arm but does anyone have a photo of where it goes on the trigger please. Got this gun here in and unsafe cocked mode so a little urgent if you see what I mean.
    TIA

I have now found where the trigger end goes. What a shitty way of doing it. Can I do away with the ABT. Even if I connected it back up it looks like it is just waiting to happen again

This gun was made by gypsies, the ABT is just old bits of peg arranged in such a way as to prevent you being able to decock the gun.

Remove it and buy some lucky heather instead

Personally I discard the ABT all together. If there's no pellet in it's not quite as dire a situation as you might think. If there is a pellet in however, proceed with caution!

I have managed to fire it operating the ABT manually. Now to work out how to remove it completely

Glad you've got it safe. I can't remember exactly how it comes off but I think it was quite simple. If you can do pics we can probably have a look and advise. The wire thing is the main part of it.

On the side of the trigger mech is a plastic plate the connects to the ABT wire. When the action is closed the plastic plate is pulled forwards and the trigger is unlocked. I dont know how this plate connects to the trigget inside but surely cant be that difficult ???

Done. It doesnt connect inside at all. The plastic plate just blocks the trigger. I have now removed the plastic plate and all is good. I have kept the parts so I can reinstall should I decide to sell the gun.. It was so easy to do, dont know why I panicked so lol.

I'd always prefer to remove the ABT on springers, giving you the option of being able to de-cock the gun. I haven't removed it on my TX as yet, as it can be held in to reduce noise on cocking and allow de-cocking.

One or two of my hardly used HW97s still have their ABTs fitted and will be removed at first strip.

sounds like the gamo mechanism, with a grey plastic sliding plate. Glad you sorted it safely.. those situations are quite worrying...
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

They are very fragile, the last time i had one that jammed up a lug that holds the cover plate broke off soon after, they are rubbish plastic that is not suitible for a gun.i bought the whole trigger assembly to fix it, back then it was £20, i see that they are £35 now, thats an indicator of the build quality of the things, i got shot of mine straight after. I may not have if it was a springer but a gun that jammed up with a cocked ram in it was not something i wanted to own,
    Good luck with it,
