Could this be an accuracy buster?

Mulling over my 'bitza' 35, whether to sell it or not .. one issue is accuracy. I know it’s not run in yet but 4cm at 25 yards off a bench is No Good.

Looking over the stock prior to flogging it I found the stock had the steel spring that runs on the cocking lever stuck diagonally at the back of the cocking slot …

I checked the action and the spring was still attached to the stock bracket. So it must have come from the previous action. I pulled it out with pliers and it was very firmly embedded.

Could it have been causing accuracy issues by bearing on the cocking lever and putting inconsistent pressure on the piston?

I’m going to have to test it again aren’t I?

that's unnusual ! far from convinced it will be the cause of innacuracy though.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Have you tried with a good selection of pellets, Al? Barrel hinge bolt properly adjusted? Detent working correctly? Barrel crown good? Consistency okay?

I got the 22" barrel off Jon with a 'it's a good 'un' guarentee, the hinge is very smooth and slick and tight but not too tight.. have not checked consistency. Might just be bad technique. I will clean the barrel and have another go with different pellets. It really doesn't fit in the boot of my car so that is an issue! I like the old thing though in some ways.. maybe I will check the power and bring it down if it is over 11, I think in .177 they do better at 10.5. Big heavy piston and all.

Don't know if this will help, as all barrels seem different, but my 35 in 177 is very accurate with H&N Barracuda 8's

Not knowing about the barrel you have fitted, but I've found if some HW barrels get chopped down, they can become pellet fussy (which probably adds weight to Weihrauch's assertion that they choke their barrels). I had an HW30 carbined and post carbining, I could only group with Superdomes. Before, it was un-pellet fussy. I'd suggest maybe trying what pellets you have in stock?

Ill clean the barrel and try a wider selection of pellets. The shop was out of 8s last time but maybe it might do better with a heavier pellet, I am sure I have some Bismags or similar somewhere ..
