    Buddy bottle valve change.

I have a 400?cc R7 buddy bottle that leaks badly so needs a new valve. Found what I need on the best fittings website but no tool ? Smooth with round sides, how do yous unscrew / replace / tighten up ?

For the valve that you are removing, you can file / mill flats on each side. Or just grab the threads in a vice, if you are binning it anyways.

To hold the bottle itself, I use a wrap of rubber for grip (old bike inner tube works) and my hands.

A little heat (warm, not hot) can help.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Thanks, just general brute force attitude needed then.

I's not the old style Schrader valve is it? Maybe those were only used on the early 280cc bottles. If it is they are an easy fix with a small bicycle valve tool and a new valve insert. I just asked as you did say Rapid 7 not a later model.

It's a Mk1, I'll have to check the valve. If it is a schrader are those the long ones with a long spring ? I havnt got it with me at the moment.

I think the 400cc were the ball type valve...

Finding the higher pressure schrader cores can be a pain.
I tried car cores and later on cores from industrial tyre set ups. Neither lasted more than a couple of fills.

The Shrader valve looks just like the one on your bicycle or car tire. Just a tiny pin sticking up inside the valve. I don't remember who I got mine from but mine have been perfect for quite a while now. No problems at all. I'm not familiar with the UK but I found several sources in the US. I bought a couple extras just in case but haven't been needed. They are rated at 4000 psi. Be aware though if it is one of the older ones they won't work in the newer rifles and if you screw on the bottle it will bend that tiny stem and you will have to replace it. Not hard to do but just saving you from another headache. Don't ask me how I know. But I believe Shed tuner might be correct that only the early smaller 280cc bottles had those and they swapped to a ball valve on the 400cc bottles.
