Going to make Friday and Saturday for this one... looking forwards to seeing you chaps there again.. and picking up at least one project![]()
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. But not lathes. I have too many lathes. Thanks, JB.
So.......I bought a weed burner, butane canister and cake tin yesterday.....£15.47 for the whole lot. Bargain....from Home Bargains!
Later on I got the chance to have a little play with it all. Lobbed a load of retrieved, splattered pellets into the bottom (about three tins' worth) and hit them with the flame for a while. They took a fair bit of time to melt with the antimony content. And the green scummy stuff looks well funny. Then took the piece of lead flashing that I'd put into the small target holder the other week and melted that. Much more playful!
I'll have to cut some more of the flashing off and get that melted down onto it as I think, for the trap to work effectively, we're going to need a minimum depth of 5mm of lead. More preferably. Then I'm hoping that pellets shot into it will just embed themselves nicely and build the lead backing up. Occasionally give it a flash over with the flame to level things up?
Will report on future progress.
I haven't managed to make a start on the leather and Kevlar jeans and carpet filled box yet. I've been on the naughty step and not allowed any decent playtime.![]()

Not yet & worse still range time (Sunday afternoon ) has been lost to a family BBQ 'cos "fathers day"![]()
On the plus side I've just bought an old HW 70. I'll have to see which type of piston seal it takes when I strip it. I've got a brand new short WW spring that I'm hoping will fit in there
.

Sorry to hear about your arrangements on Sunday and how this affects playtime.Try and think of it a little bit along the lines of scoring up some brownie points, though.
Congratulations on this new purchase. I LOVE the HW70.To me, it seems almost like it's the pistol equivalent of the HW30..... Modest power output, superb trigger, fine accuracy and absolutely impeccable firing manners making it so easy to tap into the accuracy. I lhaven't ever been inside mine and will be interested in hearing your findings.

Absobloodylutely, Jon.A nice, relaxing day plinking in the garden would be perfect!
And, as for presents......the wife said to me the other day, "You might not like the present I bought you, but it wasn't cheap." and, I replied, "Well, you know what I like so I think I'm easy to buy for". She replies, "well I'm not buying pellets or stuff for your guns as I don't like them....." etc. etc......Surely the whole point of choosing a gift is plumping for something you know the recipient likes, not the giver????
So, for me a new pistol (dream on!), pellets, targets, catapult gear or beer would all be fine. And could be cheap. The suspense is killing me!![]()

The HW 70 is an old one with bakerlite grips, it's only doing around 1 Ft/lb so needs sorting, looks far simpler than the HW45. It takes a different mainspring to the 45, not surprising as the piston is bigger. Apparently there are two types of piston, the older one being the hard one to source seals for, so I'm wondering about a thick tapered washer type conversion. I've got a couple of breech seals so I can swap that for nowt.
My ideal day is to be left in peace full stop, not got kids, but have got parents that seem to think I want to spend a lot of time with them listening to tales of what they ate on holiday
That's how wives work
Got a wardrobe full of clothes I won't wear to prove it
