HW 97. To strip or not to strip ?

    Hi all.
I bought a pretty much new 97 yesterday. This gun has not been run in yet , problem is the spring twang ! i have owned lots of 77's and 97's but never from new. Do I bite the bullet and strip and re lube properly (heard stories that weihrauch QC has nosedived a little). Or do i tough it out and just stick a couple of tins of pellets through her ? Is this a common issue on all new HW's
    regards

No - that's due to the rifle not having bespoke fitting guides, piston liners and the correct lubes, such as you'd get with a decent quality tuning kit.
Put on heading 270, assume attack formation

never seen the true benefit of tuning kits. I had a mk1 77 that was fully tuned by Dave Hall , it was very consistent power wise but could feel no other benefit really . for the price i paid for the full tune i wonder if it was worth it ? i have stripped many HW's and i generally find that a good clean and sensible re lube normally un boings it. Didnt want to have to do it as its a new gun so i wanted to let it settle in , but i may just re lube it and see how i go

Sounds like you do not want to buy a kit spring guide and sleeve etc to de twang it ..
Why don't you leave it as is and shoot it as is let everything bed in..

Years ago that may have been the case, My mate bought a 97 new a few years ago, It was shocking, The recoil was bad and sounded nasty. Strip down and see your options, Myself I would go with a kit,

I am happy to buy whatever the rifle needs. Just off past experience , i have never seen the benefit in a kit . the new 97's i think will prove me wrong so i may have to go down that route. One thing for certain is that whatever it needs it needs attention. Bit disappointed really for a supposed world class spring gun it seems very un-Weihrauchy . I know it will scrub up , but pretty much out of the box should you have to scrub ? even the trigger is set to a heavy ish pull

Unfortunately bud hw rifles are not what they once were, My experience anyway. Last hw97 I bought was in 2000 and although it's only see a few pellets in it's life it shoots lovely with no nasty noise or recoil. Unless my mate was unlucky his was awful from new. If I wanted a good rifle these days I would be sourcing a older model.

    Fit a kit.
Plan b strip and plaster the spring with thick grease. Cheaper but it will stop the twang.

For the sake of half an hour and your own peace of mind, just do it.

Apart from a 99 (straight away, galling fix) I always strip anything new after a 100 shot. Quick deburr, polish, drop in kit and relube.

Removing the original lube & then lightly lubing it won't fix the fact that the spring is loose on the spring guide & it has no top hat.

Try a kit, Tbt, or Welsh Willy & you will feel & hear the difference, no twang, smoother cocking & a better shot cycle. Lots of us have found a big difference in fitting a kit, if they didn't make a difference people wouldn't keep buying them.

As for the trigger there are plenty of youtubes on that, just don't make it so light it's dangerous. When I got my 97 (second hand) the trigger was set so light that it had already fired before my brain had received the signal from my finger that it was touching it !
