Smile Happy 12th Birthday, The Boinger Bash

Yesterday saw the twelve years marker of the very first Boinger Bash, held at the hallowed Quigley Hollow.

For me, I don't think it's an overstatement saying what a pivotal and life-changing moment this event delivered for myself and so many others. So many people have met through these fantastic meets and so many enduring friendships have been forged over the years.

In the very capable hands of Neil54 and his good lady, Tina, The Bash continues in the tradition established by the Grand Founder, Mick, delivering an easily accessible meet set in glorious countryside offering safety, a huge variety of targets at varying ranges, camping facilities and the ideal canvas for an informal and most enjoyable atmosphere which welcomes all.

    Thank you.

And thank you to everyone who has attended. Even to those who may have just attended the once or just occasionally. And especially to those who continue to regularly attend every meet and have done so for many years. Without you all, The Bash wouldn't have continued going from strength to strength and wouldn't have stood the test of time.

And thank you to the wonderful BBS, without which we would not have ever communicated the initial rumblings of such a meet and continues to facilitate communications amongst like-minded enthusiasts.

    Long live The Boinger Bash.

Some old posts from 2013 concerning rumblings of a "Spring Rifle Gathering"......

We get a venue. To make it as fair as possible, it'd have to be centrally located, to make it possible for all.
Maybe an existing FT venue, but one with camping/b&b/hotel facilities.

An informal-ish FT/HFT shoot. Lots of trick, tuned springers.

Compulsory peeps have got to be Bigtoe, Mick, Jim Tyler and Terry D. Get some professional tuners there, too....Steve Pope, Tony Wall, Welsh Willy, Lyn Lewington, UK Neil.

Throw in lots of like-minded enthusiasts and home tinkerers. And also just people who enjoy shooting their springers, even basic, older, open sighted oldies.

Maybe a few trade stands...John Knibbs, Chambers Spares, manufacturers, importers etc etc.

Even if it can't be this grand, we need to organise a springer gathering, even if it's just 100 or so like-minded spring enthusiasts.

Come on, chaps, what do you think?

    Likely venues?

THIS COULD BE A TRULY FANTASTIC DAY / WEEKEND. Let's make it happen!!

I merely suggested a camp over and fun target comp-that way if people have a long way to travel, it makes it more worthwhile

If you can get Terry D to strut his stuff around an HFT / FT course, that would be worth the journey alone

The only other "suggestion" would be to run a few fun sideshoots with all proceeds going to Cliff and Graylings very worthy Treats for British Troops charity

First, I'm afraid that what appears to be unlimited enthusiasm on here may not represent quite as much in the real world. In my experience, ten forum promises to attend equates to one person actually making it on the day. Also, if you're going to 'sell' the idea to a business, you'll need to guarantee a viable turnout. I think you'd be better off organising something around an existing event, where at least some of the interested parties will be going anyway. Kelmarsh or the Midland Game Fair are good meeting points, with camping facilities on hand.

I'd love to bring some springers to a meet, and I'd certainly give it publicity in the mags, so keep me posted and good luck with it.

The best bet would be to try and get T 20 to come along also and bring the 35 so we need to give him time to get it finished..i can bring the 80's (may have 4 by then..one in each calibre and all will have different stroke)

It really needs to be somewhere that is ubber secure if staying over night, somewhere that the guns can be locked away safely and securely.

I will say this, a mate gave me a report on the new Atherton range, cheap to shoot, 45 yards, indoors etc, close to a motorway etc...although its north of Manchester, but its really what you want to be looking at maybe.

Happy memories and that pivotal opening post for the first Bash:-

    THE EVENT

The Spring Rifle Gathering is to be held on 15th June 2013

This is just to be a day of chatting about guns, shooting, eating, drinking and getting to meet folks off the various forums.

    THE PRICE

£20 including camping over the full weekend (3 nights if required)

This is a prepayment only event --- so if you haven't prepaid, don't show up on the day.

Part of this payment is for me to insure on the field so that folks without their own shooting insurance can attend.

    THE VENUE

    Higham Fields Farm
    Higham Fields Lane,
    Higham on the hill,
    Nuneaton,
    Warwickshire.
    CV13 6ET

The farm is 40 minutes away from both the collectors’ events the following day to be held at the Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham and the Melbourne Marksmen Collectors Fayre at Melbourne Derbyshire.

    HOW IT WORKS

After a great deal of valuable and helpful assistance from Mr Jim Tyler (BTDT) I shall now be using the following system which greatly simplifies the time taken in administration.

    1) Anybody who would like to attend simply sends a cheque for £20 made payable to M Furniss (me) to my work address above.
On the back of the cheque write your username, Forum, nearest postal town and the word "camping" if doing so.

    2) I hang on to the cheques until we reach the minimum break even point for portaloos insurance etc before banking them.

    3) I will be scanning the cheques before banking them, so in the event of cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances (the weather) I can bank transfer your money back into your account.

    4) As cheques come in I will post your username/Forum/Postal town up on here with your cheques status ---received/Banked.

As this idea was conceived by Baxterbasics and TonyL on here then out of respect to the BBS owners (J S Ramsbottom) no trade stands will be invited to attend.

I have local caterers booked for the day to sell Burgers, Hot dogs, Pork and stuffing cobs, Tea and Coffee etc.

I will not be organising a licensed bar on site but as your cars will be accessible inside the site I suggest you bring your own.

For those camping I shall be building a bonfire for the Saturday night.

The extent of targets and ranges will be dependant on interest/Money available --- as I have no idea how many people will attend I have allowed for a certain flexibility.

On arrival I shall be giving out permission letters to shoot and a username badge which will also double as a pass.

If there are any questions please ask on this thread and I will answer them here to save repetition.

    Thank you once again Jim

    All the best Mick

Happy birthday to the Boinger Bash 👍.
I didn’t make it to the first few events because of shyness .
But I’ve tried to attend nearly everyone since and absolutely enjoy the experience.
I remember seeing a good few of the people on the list at some of the Bash’s over the years.
Long live the Boinger Bash :cool.

Same for me Les, I worried that everyone knowing more than me might be embarrassing. Now of course I know that there couldn't be a more friendly and helpful group of people anywhere. Always a pleasure when a bash comes round.

No dresses please unless you meet the current legal definition of a woman.

I think you missed the upset Tom, there was some distress at the last bash due to body parts being on display on the Saturday. Thursday is nudeday as every one knows.

Other than that its camo, outdoor wear or even jeans.

Ah, you two fine later arrivals never met Maz!

And some of Dave's escapades in the earlier days gave rise to the Holy Quigley Hollow Doctrine of "What Happens at The Hollow, Stays at The Hollow".

Best decision I ever made. Drive 100 miles on your own to find you really did have friends there. You just hadn't met them
