And what a huge relief!
I had an opportunity to grab a few minutes yesterday with one of the Crosman 1377s. I know, I know, it's not a classy German rifle, but I love using these in my small garden.
Now, ever since the cataract op about 18 months ago I have the issue of, when shooting open sighted (conventional "irons", if I shoot wearing glasses the target is sharp but the sights are blurry. Glasses off and sights are in focus but, depending on size and distance to target, but target is blurry or I can't see it.
Things were going disastrously with the 1377 and groups were large and erratic.
Now, we all knew from previous thread discussions that the peep sight should be the answer to all my problems.
Was it!
I flipped the rearsight element over to use the peep. Wow! What a transformation. I could see the target and the foresight both sharply in focus. With and without my glasses on! What absolute joy and a massive, massive relief. I've always enjoyed using opens and had become increasingly frustrated at not being able to use them effectively since those ops. The humble little peep sight has enabled me to continue open sight shooting.
Time was running short. A quick four shots into a target resulting in a lovely small and tiny cluster proved the theory. I'll just need to lower it slightly at the next play.
So happy!
And last week my BSA Meteor aperture rearsight elements arrived, with a view to me having a play to try and make something that works. Probably employing a scope mount / arrestor block mounting process. We'll see.
Thanks Craigy for this thread and re-igniting the idea and showing all the benefit and usability of the humble peep / aperture rear sight.
