    Hw77 refurb and reacquantance.

I got reacquainted with my Hw77 that I’ve had for 5 years ish.
It’s an early full length 25mm version, in need of a refurb inside and out.
It was in a bit of a state, with rust all over and the stock hadn’t been looked after either.
A well abused example, but I only paid £50 for it ,so spending a a few Bob on it was the order of the day.
I stripped the old blueing and rust using brick cleaner, and oil with 0000 wire wool and reblued with Tetra blueing liquid.
The finish isn’t great but it’s protected for now.
The stock was stripped and lightly sanded, I stained the blond beech with some old Jacobean oak stain I had laying around and refinished with some Birchwood Casey True oil finish.
I fitted a new spring and guide set from ARC tuning (V-Mach) style, and replaced the breech and piston seals.
The spring and ball bearing from the under lever lock up parted ways,so I replaced with the 7mm ball catch modification..
I am only using the open sights on the gun and had a nice shooting session in the garden with it yesterday.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself, despite struggling with my crap short sightedness ldwink.
Looking forward to using it at the Summer Bash.
    Les..

we need before and after pix mate
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. But not lathes. I have too many lathes. Thanks, JB.

    Hi Jon
I did the refurb about 5 years ago ldeek, and didn’t take any photos.
I’m still unsure how to put photos on here, new Paul did offer to show me how too,but I didn’t take him up on his offer..
I’ll have a quick read up and attempt to put a piccy up.

Nicely done mate - always worth taking pity on a 77. And for £50, you had a serious bargain.
Email the photos to me if you like and I'll host them for you.

    Thanks Paul ldwink.
It’s not brilliant close up, but it’s much better than what it was before.
I think it was made in 1983-84 ish so she’s 40+ years old.
I never got one, when they first arrived on the scene.
But what a fantastic rifle they are,a real game changer.they definitely blew everything out of the water back in the day, and still a match for anything modern imo.

    Les..
Absolutely, 100%. I've said it so many times and it was a true landmark and critically pivotal rifle.

I can't view those images right now. I'll look in later on the phone.

Nice one, Les. One of mine is very similar......an abused one given to me in 2009. Full length in .22. V-Mach kit fitted in early 2010 together with replacement underlever catch, also from Steve. This rifle wears the thumbhole synthetic 97 stock that some of The Boingerati bought me in 2014. Even with my dodgy eyesight, wearing a basic non-AO Hawke 4x32 it happily shoots 7mm edge-to-edge groups at the Doncaster Indoor Range at 25 yards. Love it.
THE BOINGER BASH AT QUIGLEY HOLLOW. MAKING GREAT MEMORIES SINCE 15th JUNE, 2013.
    NEXT EVENT :- July 19/20, 2025.........BOING!!
